Theo Fennell unveils award winners

Theo Fennell has announced the two winners of its annual Central St Martins award show. The event marks the 12th year the jeweller has sponsored the BA design show, and presented the annual awards. Two students have now been awarded in two categories set by Theo Fennell, in Best Design Proposal and Best Online Project. Olivia Woodhouse won the Best Design Proposal Prize category, while Hannah Bourne was awarded with Best Online Project. The awards are traditionally held at the Central St Martins campus, but in light of the virus, students were asked to virtually present their designs to Fennell, given only a few minutes to talk through their inspirations, year’s work and final pieces. A further physical show sponsored by Fennell will be hosted in January 2021, where he will present two additional awards: Best Overall Piece and Best Technical Prize. Theo Fennell said: “As always we are thrilled to sponsor the CSM Degree show and to give our annual prizes. This year has obviously been quite a challenge and the students and staff should be very proud of the way they have managed through this very difficult time. “There is some fantastic work and some deeply thought out projects and, as usual, it has been very difficult to separate the best.” The latest awards follow Theo Fennell’s ongoing commitment to supporting the jewellery industry through its Gilded Youth initiative, which aims to encourage designers and support emerging young jewellery and silver talent. Fennell said: “The Gilded Youth project is our ongoing mission to support and nurture the master jewellers and designers of the future. “The reason we sponsor prizes, awards and initiatives for young starters, apprentices and college students. at, amongst others, The RCA, Central St Martins and the Goldsmiths Center - is to try and help them prepare for the future and promote the extraordinary young talent we have in this country.”
